Royal Mail Steamer ‘Davaar’ approaching Carradale pier, c 1925. She was built at Govan in 1885 for the Campbeltown & Glasgow Steam Packet Company and ran daily between Campbeltown and Glasgow, calling at Carradale and other ports. The pier, when built in 1871 by Colonel Sir David Carrick Buchanan, laird of Carradale, was the first iron pier in Scotland and was constructed with two levels, the higher to suit the berthing of steamers and the lower for fishing boats.
