'Southern Briar' amongst ice. 'Southern Briar' was originally launched as 'HMS Cyclamen', a flower class corvette, at John Lewis & Sons shipyard, Aberdeen during September 1940.

'Southern Briar' was originally launched as HMS Cyclamen, a flower class corvette, at John Lewis & Sons shipyard, Aberdeen, during September 1940.

She was 196ft in length with a beam of 33ft and a draft of 16ft. She was fitted with a triple expansion four cyclinder steam engine which was fed by two water tube boilers. She had a horse power of 2750 and a speed of 16 knots max.
