Mathew McDougall and his Family
before 1916, Carradale - Port Righ. West coast Boatbuilding Family - Mathew Mcdougall and his wife (centre) and some of his 11 children. Fisherman turned boat builder - skiffs were built in a field next to the family house and launched sideways over rollers. pitch-pine for planking was brought from Clydesdale but Larch came from Saddell, nearby. Timber was rolled from the hill to the shore below, then loaded into a boat or lashed in bundles and towed to Port Righ. skiffs built include: Isabelle, Clan Mcdougall, Naggie Mcdougall, Mhairi, Clan Matheson (Source: Ringnet Fishermen, by Angue Martin) Mathew McDougall died in 1916, his wife lived to the age of 92 Left to right back: Elizabeth, Mathew, Alister, Charles, bottom: Margaret, Neil, Robert.
