‘Fiona’ CN165 of Campbeltown at sea off Colonsay, c 1965.
‘Fiona’ CN165 of Campbeltown at sea off Colonsay, c 1965.

She is tied alongside ‘Stella Maris’ CN158, from which the photograph was taken. Both boats were engaged in prawn-trawling.

L-R: Colin MacBrayne, Davie Paterson, Walter Brown, and Denis Meenan, skipper, in the wheelhouse.

The brothers Jim and Denis Meenan, who already had the ‘Stella Maris’, bought the ‘Fiona’ in 1964. After Jim’s death in 1967, ‘Stella Maris’ was sold, and the ‘Fiona’ was renamed ‘Stella Maris II’. Denis worked her until 1974, when he replaced her with ‘Stella Maris III’, purpose-built for mid-water trawling.

The fourth ‘Stella Maris’ in the Meenan family’s ownership was originally ‘Watchful’ BA124.
