'Junella' H294, Loch Broom, early 1980s
'Junella' was the last British built freezer stern trawler.
'Junella' H294 (Yard No: 332) was built by the Clelands Shipbuilding Co Ltd for J Marr of Hull.
She was launched on 9th September 1975 and completed on 1st December 1975. She was 1,615grt, with a length of 55m a beam of 13.09m and a draft of 8.08m.
She was powered by a Mirrlees Blackstone 4 stroke 6 cylinder 3,180bhp diesel. This gave her a free running top speed of 15.5 knots. In April 1982, she was one of 5 similar stern trawlers which were commissioned into the Royal Navy for use as minesweepers during the Falklands war. As a minesweeper, she became HMS Junella. In October 1982, she was returned to her owners J Marr Ltd. In July 1983, she was sold to owners in Greenland and renamed 'Siku'. In 1985, she was sold to Norwegian owners and renamed 'Vestrtraal'. In 1987, she was bought by J Marr of Hull, who renamed her 'Hill Cove'. She was then used for fishing in the waters around the Falkland Islands.
In 1991, she was sold to Argentinean owners, who renamed her 'Junella'. She continued fishing for various Argentine owners until 19TH July 1999.
On this date she suffered a serious fire and as a result she was beached at San Antonio Oeste, Rio Negro, Argentina. She was subsequently scrapped on the beach.
