Description
Cromorna KY73 returning to port after a trip to sea. The steel steam herring drifter Cromona KY73 (Yard No 439) was built in 1910, by the Smith’s Dock Co Ltd at Middlesbrough. Her first owners were Andrew Henderson, W A Readdie and William S Bonthron of Anstruther. She was 82 ft long, with a beam of 18.4 ft and a draft of 9.87 ft. She was powered by a 37nhp steam engine. Her gross tonnage was 84.6 tons. In 1915, she was hired by the Admiralty as a minesweeper and anti submarine net vessel. She was given the pennant number 2456, and fitted with a 6 PDR gun. In 1918, she was owned by M & H Henderson, W A Readdie, William S Bonthron, D Cuthbert and J Tawse of Anstruther. She was returned to her new owners in 1919. In 1922, she was owned by I & H Henderson, T Gardner, G Doig, William S Bonthron, D Cuthbert, T M Anderson and J Tawse of Anstruther. On January 15th 1929, she was sold to Skipper/Owner George Anderson of Slack Villa, Port Knockie, Bannfshire. Her home port then became Port Knockie and she became Cromana BF2. Her name was changed to Lemnos BF2 on the 19th January 940On the 21st January 1929, her owners were George Anderson (skipper), James Simpson of Binnview, Portknockie and Richard Irvin & Sons of North Shields. On May 6th 1937, she was owned by Catherine Mair or Anderson, Slack Villa, Portknockie, Lilian Simpson, Ninnview, Port Knockie & Richard Irvin & Sons Ltd of North Shields. In 1940, she was hired to the Admiralty for harbour duties. She remained on hire until 1945, after which she was returned to her owners. In March 1946, she was sold to a Bisset B Coull of Peterhead. She then became Lemnos PD141. She was scrapped in 1951.
