Interior view of Chalmer's Memorial Church, Anstruther, 1893
Valentine postcard of an interior view of Chalmer's Memorial Church, Anstruther. Serial number indicates a date of 1893.

Chalmers Memorial Church, on Backdykes, was built in 1889-1891, and consecrated in 1893. A large, ambitious Gothic-style church with a broach spire it was designed by a local architect, David Henry. It was originally called the Anstruther Free Church but renamed in honour of Dr Thomas Chalmers, founder of the Free Church of Scotland, who was born in the town. It fell out of use in 1983 and was completely destroyed in a fire in 1991.

Fishermen used its steeple as a prominent landmark.
