Group portrait of the Stewart family of Campbeltown.
Stewart family group and others on board a fishing boat, Campbeltown harbour, c 1937.

L-R (standing): Dugald McIntyre; Ria McNaughton; Willie Stewart.

L-R (sitting): Davie Stewart, a brother of Willie; Sandy Gilchrist, the Stewarts’ brother-in-law; Matthew Speed; Danny Stewart; Willie Scally.

Danny Stewart, brother of Willie and Davie, died of peritonitis on 28 December 1941, aged 14, and is buried in Kilkerran, Campbeltown, with his parents, Archibald ‘Baldy’ Stewart and May McNaughton. When the Stewart family had a ring-netter built by Miller, St Monans, in 1948, she was named ‘Boy Danny’ CN142 in his memory.

To left of the photograph, part of the name ‘Lochfyne’ GK171 is visible. She was built in 1933 by H. McLean, Govan, and owned by Smith & Ritchie, fish-buyers, Glasgow. She later fished from Campbeltown, skippered by Archie McKillop and neighbouring the ‘Enterprise’ CN256, and was requisitioned during the Second World War.
