Ringnetters and steamers, Greenock, c.1930
Ringnetters including ‘Silver Spray’, a nabby, built in 1912 by John Thomson, Ardrossan, for McCrindles, Maidens, and registered BA52. She was sold in 1927 to Tarbert and registered TT77, her skipper Donald ‘Tom’ MacDougall. In this photograph, another Tarbert ring-netter – of more modern build – lies alongside her. A part of the ‘Silver Spray’s’ net has been suspended from the mast to dry, and the crew of the outer boat, a motorised Loch Fyne Skiff, are hoisting their net.

In the background, there is a Clyde Puffer and Clyde steamers laid up for winter including 'Saint Columba', 'Duchess o Argyll', 'Queen Mary', 'Duchess of Fife', and possibly 'Duchess of Montrose'.
