Launch of the 'Admiral Fitzroy', Anstruther, 1865-1888.

The boat reached Anstruther railway station on the 17th November 1865. The following day it was drawn through the streets on its carriage, by four grey horses and was manned by it's coxswain and six crew members. The order of the procession was as follows:

1. The rifle volunteers, preceded by the band.
2. The managers, councils and managers of the burghs.
3. The harbour commissioners
4. The local lifeboat committee
5. The inspector of the lifeboat stations
6. 'The Admiral Fitzroy' drawn by four horses
7. The six coxswains and their respective crews
8. The fishermen of Cellardyke, Pittenweem, St Monans and Crail.

The boat was named by Miss Williamson of Anstruther and dedicated by the Reverand A. Gregory. 'The Admiral Fitzroy' served the station for the next 23 years standing by the fishing fleet on many and saving 18 lives.

The station was established in 1865 at the request of the local fisherman, who subscribed among themselves £60 toward the cost of station. The initution sent a 32 pulling life boat 'The Adminral Fitzroy' with ten oars, built out of a gift of £600 from a lady in Cheltenham.
