Title
Barbara Paton GW7
Description
Built by John Lewis & Sons, Aberdeen (Yard No 272), for William Liston Ltd of Leith, as Barbara Paton GW7. She was launched on 27/8/1957 and completed later that same year. She had a length of 115ft 4in and a beam of 25ft 4in. Her gross tonnage was 273 tons. She was powered by a 640bhp British Polar GMB7 2 stroke 4-cylinder diesel. In 1972, she was sold to the Boyd Line, who then renamed her Arctic Explorer GW7. In 1978, she was sold to Captain Silas Oates of Plymouth. It had been intended that she would be used as a salvage vessel for the salvage company Coastal Marine. But a thorough inspection revealed that she was only fit for scrap. Before she could be taken for scrapping, she sank at Cattewater Harbour, Plymouth in February 1979. Despite numerous attempts to refloat her she remained on the bottom until the following year. She was refloated in 1980 and then scrapped. IMO: 5036482.
