Mrs Fairnie, mother of Michael Fairnie outside a customer's house, wearing her traditional Fisherrow fishwife's working costume. 1935

She has the usual two baskets used to carry the fish and balanced on top is a small chopping board. Fish were either prepared in advance or gutted and filleted in response to the customer's requirements.
