Description
Crew ringnetter of 'Mystical Rose', CN245, hauling nets, off the Brown Head, Arran, 1938. 'Mystical Rose', CN245, belonged to the Meenan family of Campbeltown. Tommy Meenan is pictured nearest then Lionel Brodie. In the background, another pair of ringnetters - 'Glad Tidings', CN202, and 'Bengullion', CN229. Mystical Rose’ was built by H. McLean & Sons, Govan, in 1932, for James Meenan Jr., John Meenan and George Meenan. She was requisitioned by the Ministry of War Transport (Marine Division) on 14 March 1942 and was acquired outright for service abroad on 20 November 1946, along with the first ‘Moira’ CN261. Of the 24 modern ring-netters fishing from Campbeltown before the war, 10 were requisitioned after the war began and the first of these were manned by members of their existing crews.
