Portrait of Brown Johnson and his wife, Dunbar, 1890.
Portrait of Brown Johnson and his wife, Dunbar, 1890.

His wife was known locally as 'True Blue' and stopped the Kirk at Dunbar harbour from being knocked down by obstructing the demolishers.

She also had a lump of gold on her sideboard, reputedly as large as a fist, which was brought back from Australia and given to her by George Aitken. 'Georgie', as he was known, had one leg owing to a fishing accident and often sat begging for money - they did not realise how valuable the gold was!
