‘Beautiful Star’ Memorial, Hardwick Road cemetery, King’s Lynn
Monument erected to the memory of eight fishermen of St Monans and Cellardyke who were lost off the Norfolk coast in a storm of 19th November 1875.

Five boats were lost - three from St Monans and two from Cellardyke. Each had a crew of seven men, so 35 lives were lost altogether (plus another two Cellardyke men who were washed overboard from other boats). Only eight bodies were recovered. They were buried in King’s Lynn and commemorated on the Memorial:

The ‘Beautiful Star’ was used by sculptor, Mr Bone, as the model for the Memorial which was funded by public subscription from the people of King’s Lynn.
