'Mary Sturgeon', BA40, in harbour, Dunure.
Ringnetter 'Mary Sturgeon', BA40, built in 1926 by W. Weatherhead, Cockenzie, was the first canoe-sterned ring-netter from that yard. She was named after the wife of her owner, John Gemmell, Dunure. The late Grieve Gemmell told Angus Martin in 2000 that members of the Gemmell family travelled through to Cockenzie and laboured in the boatyard to hasten her completion.

When replaced in 1933 by ‘Mary Sturgeon II’ BA234, also a Weatherhead boat, she was sold to Carradale and became ‘Polly Cook’ CN255. Her owners there were Gilbert McIntosh Sr. – whose wife was Polly Cook – and Angus Cook (skipper). She was sold to Tarbert in 1947 and registered TT85.
