The boats, all built by J. Noble, Fraserburgh, are L-R:

‘Florentine’ CN197 was built in 1932 for Walter McConnachie and her name is a composite of his daughters’ names, Florence and Christine. She was requisitioned for wartime service and returned in 1946. Ownership was transferred to Walter’s sons, James and John, in 1951, and in 1959 she was sold to Eire and replaced with ‘Florentine’ CN74.

‘Cluaran’ CN240. Gaelic for ‘Thistle’. She too was built in 1932, for William C. Galbraith (also skipper). In 1946, she was sold to Seahouses and became BK 149. Galbraith, a notable bagpiper and Gaelic singer, opened Portcrannaig Stores in Carradale and later moved to Ardrishaig, where he died in 1969.

‘Mairi Bhan’ CN259. Gaelic for ‘Fair Mary’. She was built in 1933 for John A. Galbraith (skipper) and Alexander ‘Aleca’ McDougall. In 1945, Galbraith ceased to be a shareholder and was replaced by Neil McDougall. She was sold to Wick in 1952.
