At that time, he owned and skippered the ‘Thalassa’ CN112, built in 1926 by Wilson Noble, Fraserburgh. She was 43.2 feet long, fully decked, but lacked a wheelhouse and was steered by tiller. Donald, who was born in Carradale in 1893 to John McIntosh and Elizabeth Galbraith, spent his entire life at Rose Cottage, Carradale, overlooking the sea, and died in 1988. His wife, Mary Campbell, predeceased him in 1974.
