Alexandra Rose Day Charity Collectors
Alexandra Rose Charity Collectors during World War One, Johnstone Lodge, Anstruther, 1914-18.

Founded in 1912 by Queen Alexandra, the Alexandra Rose Charity was established initially to support Londoners in poverty. Inspired by a priest in her native Denmark selling roses to raise money for those in need, Queen Alexandra brought the idea back to the UK. Silk roses were sold, raising funds for hospitals and people in poverty to access healthcare.
