Fishwives at Port Seton early 20th century
Note slates for recording prices. 'Rouping' or auctioning of fish was always done in broadest Cockenzie Scots. The price was noted in pence only, not shillings and pence. The lady with the slate in the centre is Kirsty Peden who recorded prices. Fish was sold by the dozen, half dozen or if cod, singly. Far right is Mrs Ritchie from Prestonpans.

Original from Cockenzie primary School via C Carruthers.
