Fishwife with baskets
Fishwife holding fish. The baskets on the ground beside her are called "rips" and were used in and around Arbroath to carry fish for sale. The woman's waist is padded with fabric to help support the baskets - the larger one has a strap for carrying it over the shoulders, the small one was carried on one arm.
