'Nil Desperandum', CN232, in harbour, St Monans, 1928.
‘Nil Desperandum’ CN232 was launched in August 1928 from the yard of J. N. Miller & Sons, St Monans, for John Short (skipper) and Agnes Robertson, Campbeltown. Her experimental forward wheelhouse proved unsatisfactory and was shifted aft in 1933.

Her neighbour-boat at ring-netting was the ‘Nulli Secundus’ CN246. ‘Nil Desperandum’ was sold to Carradale in 1937 and then, in 1939, to Tarbert, where, owned by Duncan McDougall and skippered by his brother, John, she was renamed ‘Nancy Glen’ TT10.

She was sold in March 1949 to Gavin Maxwell’s Isle of Soay Shark Fisheries Ltd. for conversion into a harpoon boat, but his venture into basking shark hunting was already almost over.

Original from Angus Martin, Campbeltown.
A Martin.
