'Spes Melior' KY19 in Anstruther, 1930
Steam drifter 'Spes Melior' KY19 in Anstruther in 1930. On board are Alex Doig (left) and Tam Stevenson (right).

'Spes Melior' was built by Scott & Sons of Bowling in 1919 for the Admiralty as HMD 'Undertow'. After beginning fishing in 1920 in Buckie as BCK368, she was sold to Cockenzie in 1921 and re-registered LH297. She was sold to William Moncrieff of Cellardyke in 1924 and was one of a number of standard steel drifter/liners sold to Peterhead after the Second World War(becoming PD397) then scrapped at St. Davids.
