Brailing herring.

When fish are concentrated alongside the fishing vessel, a brailing net is used to lift them aboard. The iron hoop of the brail net is first dipped into the net, drawn through the fish, and pulled up again. Here the tail of the brail net is hoisted from the derrick and fish is spilled through the hoop into the deck pound.
