Storm damage on quayside, Dalintober, 1905.
Storm damage on quayside, Dalintober, 1905.

Dalintober Quay, looking south across the harbour to Campbeltown. In January 1905, a succession of gales swept the West Coast, culminating in what the Argyllshire Herald (21 January 1905) described as a south-easterly ‘hurricane’. Damage included the sinking of Duncan Martin’s skiff ‘Fame’ CN118 at her moorings off Dalintober. Only the top of her mast could be seen above water, and nets and gear had been washed out of her. Elsewhere, more tragically, the Portknockie Zulu ‘Evangeline’ BF1952 was lost with her crew of eight near Orkney.
