Description
Football team, outside the Fishermen's Supply Store, Shore Street, Anstruther, 1938. Each year, during the winter herring fishing, the fish trade played a football match against the bankers, the proceeds going to local charities. In 1938, the fish trade team won and were paraded on a decorated horse-drawn float with the trophy. In the back row (left to right): ___, ___, Andy Cunningham, Sandy Watson __ Strowdger, Jimmy Smith. Front row (centre - holding the cup): David Brown (holding the cup) The other members of the team were English fish buyers in Anstruther for the season. The driver, wearing a top hat, is Alex Reid, known as Eckie Rocnie. The full frame photograph shows John Macruvie (known locally as Jock Ravie) standing to the rear of the cart and Mrs Mitchell, Adam Reid and Hugh Gourlay standing by the shop doorway to the fore.
