William Campbell was the designer and owner of the first Zulu boat - 'Nonesuch', INS2118 in 1878. He was born on 19th October 1835 in the parish of Rathven. He and his family moved to Lossiemouth in the 1860s.

It is possible this image was taken on the 20th September 1909 when Campbell celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary. He died on 23rd Febraury 1910, aged 74, leaving a widow and having fathered eleven children - eight sons and three daughters.
