About Us

Situated in the village of Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife, the Scottish Fisheries Museum is a charitable trust set up to document and preserve the fishing heritage of Scotland. Set up in 1969, the museum has been running continuously since then.

Our photographic collection consists of 13,000 images relating to the fishing industry around the country. The photographs have been gathered over many years. In 2020, scanning was completed from existing negatives. In 2022, the database was created to display the collection online. This was done with help from a grant from the Museums Association for Digital Innovation and Engagement.

Currently, we are recruiting remote volunteers to help us catalogue the collection. Find out more about remote volunteering.
